like terms Terms that involve the same variables to the same powers.
unlike terms Terms that involve different variables or the same variable with different exponents.
Multiplication property of Equality When equal quantities are multiplied by the same number, the resulting quantities are equal.
Distributive property of Multiplication over addition For any numbers a,b, and x,ax+ab=(a+b)x and x(a+b)= xa+xb.
Distributive property of Multiplication over subtraction For any numbers a,b, and x,ax-ab=(a-b)x and x(a-b)= xa-xb.
net A plane pattern for a three-dimensional figure.
surface area The sum of the areas of the faces of a solid.
acre A unit of area equal to 43,560 square feet.
height The perpendicular distance from any vertex of a triangle to the side opposite that vertex.
altitude The perpendicular segment from a vertex of a triangle to the opposite side of the triangle.
base of a triangle The side of a triangle perpendicular to an altitude.
Area formula for any triangle Let b be the length of a side of a triangle with area A. Let h be the lenght of the altitude drawn to that side. Then A= 1\2 bh.
trapezoid A quadrilateral with at least one pair of parallel sides.
Area formula for a trapezoid Let A be the area of a trapezoid with bases b1, and b2 and height h. Then A=1\2xh(b1+b2).
height (trapezoid) The distance between the bases of the trapezoid.
base (trapezoid In a trapezoid, one of the parallel sides.
