UNIT 2 Expressions and Equations

Algebraic Expression | an expression that contains at least one variable. |
Coefficient | the number that is multiplied by the variable in an algebraic expression. |
Constant | a value that does not change. |
Equation | a mathematical sentence that shows that two expressions are equivalent. |
Expression | a mathematical phrase that contains operations, numbers and/or variables. |
Factor | a number that is multiplied by another number to get a product. |

Inequality | a mathematical sentence that shows the relationship between quantities that are not equivalent. |
Integers | the set of whole numbers and their opposites. |
Inverse operations | operations that undo each other addition and subtraction, or multiplication and division. |
Inverse property of addition | the sum of a number and its opposite, are additive inverse, is 0. |

Like terms | terms with the same variables raised to the same exponents. |
Solution of an equation | a value or values that make an equation true. |
Substitute | to replace a variable with a number or another expression in an algebraic expression. |
Variable | a symbol used to represent a quantity that can change. |
Rate of production | the number of goods that can be produced during a given period of time. |
Rate of attrition | is a metric that quantifies the rate at which employees depart an organization, whether voluntarily or involuntarily. |
Percentage | a rate, number, or amount in each hundred. |
Term | A value on which mathematical operations take place in an expression. Also, a number in a sequence or series. |
