| Describe the forces that holds the atom together. | Electromagnetic Force holds the nucleus and the electrons together. Strong nucleur force holds the nucleus together. |
| Atom | The smallest unit of an element that still has the properties of that element |
| Proton | positive particle in the nucleus. It holds the identity of the atom |
| Neutron | neutral particle in the nucleus with protons. protons and neutrons make up the mass of the atom |
| Electron | negative particle outside of the nucleus in the electron cloud |
| Valance electrons | the outermost energy level (has the most energy) |
