Algebra Fundamentals
Vocabulary for Fundamentals
Term | Definition |
---|---|
Term | Single numbers, variables or combination seperated by an addition or subtraction sign. |
Coefficient | The number placed in front of the variable in an algebraic expression or equation. |
Base | A number that is raised to a certain power or the number that is multiplied by itself. |
Expression | A statement having minimum of two numbers, or variables, or both and an operation sign |
Constant | A constant is a number on its own. |
Perimeter | The distance around a two-dimensional shape. Like a fence around something. |
Combine Like Terms (CLT) | Terms with variables raised to the same power. |
Inequality | Compares two values, showing if one is less than, greater than, or simply not equal to another value. |
Equation | The values of two mathematical expressions are equal (indicated by the sign =) |
Distributive Property | Allows you to multiply a single term and two terms inside of a set of parentheses. |
