Food Chains & Webs

organism any single living thing
food chain the path of the transfer of food energy between organisms in an ecosystem
food web a diagram that shows the relationships between many foods chains within a single ecosystem
energy pyramid a diagram that shows the amount of energy available to pass from one level of a food chain to the next
arrows represent the flow of energy in a food chain
consumer an organism that eats other living things
producer a plant that makes its food through photosynthesis
carnivore a consumer that eats only meat
omnivore a consumer that eats plants and meat
herbivore a consumer that eats only plants
sun source of all energy in the food chain
decomposer breaks down dead plants and animals
