QuestionAnswer
Suspense is a feeling of growing tension and excitement experienced by a reader.
Foreshadowing When an author provides little hints about future events in the story
Imagery involves using words and phrases that appeal to a reader's senses of sight, sound, touch, smell, and taste.
Dilemma an author might put a character in a position where a choice must be made. Often both choices might have bad consequences but the character must still choose one
Cliffhanger a situation where the outcome is suspenseful uncertain up to the very last moment.
Characterization Pay attention to what details an author reveals (or leaves out) about characters in a story.
Irony - whenever a person says something or does something that departs from what they (or we) expect them to say or do
Situational Irony When you expect one thing and get another
Verbal Irony Sarcasm, overstatement, understatement
Dramatic Irony When the audience knows something the characters do not
Narrator The person telling the story
Plot The main events of the story
Protagonist The main character
Antagonist The person directly opposed to the main character
