| citric acid | a white, soluble powder having a strong acidic taste occurring in many fruits, especially in limes and lemons |
| Baking soda | A bicarbonate of soda used for many purposes such as baking and cleaning |
| Epsom salt | Crystals of hydrated magnesium sulfate for medicinal use |
| dissolve | when a solid breaks apart into particles and mixes completely into the liquid |
| mixture | A blend of two or more substances |
| viscosity | The state of being thick and semifluid in consistency, resistant to flowing |
| insoluble | describes when a material does not dissolve in something else |
| solubility | the ability to be dissolved, especially in water |
| property | a characteristic of a substance that doesn’t change |
| substance | made of one type of material throughout |
| soluble | describes when a solid can be dissolved in a particular substance |
| state of matter | one of the distinct forms or conditions in which matter exists (solid, liquid, gas, plasma) |
| density | a substance’s mass per unit of volume |
| flammability | A measure of how quickly a specific material is capable of catching fire and burning |
| nitrogen | A colorless, odorless, tasteless gas which makes up 78% of the atmosphere and is found within all living matter |
| oxygen | A colorless, odorless reactive gas which is the life-supporting component of air for humans and animals within earth’s atmosphere |
| argon | A colorless, odorless noble gas found in the earth’s atmosphere and commonly used for light bulbs, welding, and vacuum tubes |
| carbon dioxide | A colorless, odorless, gas in earth’s atmosphere necessary for plant respiration and can also be produced by burning fossil fuels |
| neon | A noble gas obtained by distilling liquid air and used in fluorescent lamps and signs |
| helium | An inert, light noble gas found deep underground, commonly used to fill balloons |
| methane | a flammable non-toxic gas formed by decaying natural material and in coal pockets underground used primarily to make heat and light |
| hydrogen | a flammable natural gas that is the simplest and most abundant chemical element and essential for life found in water and all living matter |
| propane | A liquified petroleum gas manufactured from natural gas and crude oil, used for heat, cooking food, and fueling machines |
