| Term | Definition |

| Pharyngeal Gills | Function: Openings that are used for oxygen in fish, in vertebrates. -If aquatic, they have gills. If they are not aquatic, they have ears. |
| Dorsal Nerve Cord | Develops into the brain and spinal cord in most adult vertebrates. |
| Notocord | Found just below the nerve cord, will become the spine in Vertebrates. |
| Mouth | Toward the anterior of the animal, contains parts for gathering food. |
| Digestive System | Extends from the mouth and to the anus. |
| Circulatory System | Lies just below the notocord, delivers blood and oxygen that is supplied by gills. |
| Anus | Opening at the posterior end, removes undigested wastes. |
| Tail (Post-Anal Tail) | Located at the posterior (hind) end, used for locomotion. |
