ARTIFICIAL NAIL MYTHS Myth #1: Artificial nails cause mold, bacterial growth or infection. Myth #2: Artificial nails cause natural nails to become thin.
Structure of a Nail Tip • Tip well • Position stop
Tip well The area that adheres to the natural nail plate.
Position stop A ridge underneath the nail tip where the free edge of the natural nail fits into place.
2 types of tip wells:- full-wells and half-wells
3 areas that guide you in finding the appropriate size and type of nail tip:- 1• C-Curve 2• Contact Area 3• Sidewall to Sidewall
C-Curve The horizontal curve of the nail from sidewall to sidewall. The best fit is achieved by matching the c-curve of the nail tip with the curve of the natural nail.
Contact Area the portion of the nail where the tip well is adhered to the nail plate. the contact area should not be more than half the length of the nail.
Sidewall to Sidewall - The nail tip needs to fit the width of the nail, sidewall to sidewall. - If the client is between sizes, use the larger size and file the sides down to fit the natural nail as closely as possible.
NAIL TIP APPLICATION ESSENTIALS - Nail Adhesive - Nail Tips - Tip Cutter - Disposable Towel
Nail Tips Nail tips are plastic, nylon or acetate fingernail-shaped extensions that are applied to the natural nail using a nail adhesive. Often used as a base for nail wrap, acrylic or gel products.
Nail Adhesive type of glue or bonding agent used to adhere nail tips to the natural nail.
Tip Cutter specially designed tool used to trim the length of nail tips.
Disposable Towel Protect manicure table from products. Used for cleaning and removing excess product from brushes. Discard after every service.

Nail Finishing by buffing or polishing to achieve the final look before a client walks out the door.
Base Coat Evens out nail and prevents polish from staining the nail plate
Colored Polish Creates a colored effect on the nail
Top Coat Seals colored polish and helps prevent chipping
Cuticle Oil Softens and moisturizes cuticles and surrounding skin.
