Plot Definitions

TermDefinition
Exposition The introduction of the story's background, including main characters and setting
Rising Action The introduction of the conflict and its increasing tension
Climax The point of greatest tension
Falling Action The outcome of the climax and the release of tension
Resolution The final part of the story; the conflict is resolved, and all loose ends are tied up
