PHEOC/Variables
Scientific Method and types of variables
| Question | Answer |
|---|---|
| Problem | You probably have many more of these than you have answers. These begin with: what, why, how and when |
| Hypothesis | A clear statement of what you expect the answer to be. An educated guess. |
| Experiment | Materials are listed here. This contains a series of steps that are completed to see if the hypothesis is correct or not. |
| Observation | This is where the collected data goes. Tables and graphs are often placed here. |
| Conclusion | This step you decide if the hypothesis was correct or not. |
| Data | Information gathered during a lab activity |
| Variable | Anything that can change the outcome of an experiment/lab. |
| Independent variable | The variable that is changed by the scientist to test the hypothesis |
| Dependent variable | The variable that responds to the independent variable. It is measured or observed for change. |
| Control Variable | A variable that is kept constant during the experiment so comparisons can be made. |
