| common denominator | A common multiple of the denominators of two or more fractions. Example 24 for 1/3, 5/8, and 3/4 because 24 is the LCM of 3, 8, and 4. |
| least common denominator | The least common multiple of the denominators of two or more fractions. You can use this to compare fractions. |
| like fractions | Fractions that have the same denominators. |
| rational numbers | The set of numbers that can be written in the form a/b, where a and b are integers and b does not equal 0. |
| repeating decimal | The decimal form of a rational number. |
| terminating decimal | A repeating decimal which has a repeating digit of 0. |
| unlike fractions | Fractions with different denominators. |
| improper fraction | A fraction in which the numerator is greater than or equal to the denominator. |
| mixed number | A number composed of a whole number and a fraction. |
