Observing Change
| Physical Change | A situation in which there is no change in particles, just the particle arrangement and energy. |
| Chemical Change | A situation in which a chemical reaction takes place and a new substance is formed. During a chemical change energy may be released or absorbed. This means chemical changes are usually very difficult to reverse. |
| Reactants | The chemicals that react together during a chemical reaction. |
| Products | The substances formed from chemical reactions. |
| Example of Physical Change | Melting Chocolate |
| Example of Chemical Change | Burning a Match |
| Example of a Chemical Reaction | carbon+oxygen->carbon dioxide reactants product |
| Chemical Reaction | Atoms rearranging to form a new substance, |
| Indications of the Occurrence of a Chemical Reaction | Colour changes, temperature changes, emitted light and gas bubbles. |
| Law of Conservation Mass | Mass cannot be created or destroyed, so during a physical and chemical change there is no change in overall mass. |
