Wesley rushed into class with wet hair, mismatched socks, and his breakfast bar half-eaten. He woke up late and hurried to school.
Abby sat staring at her paper with her pencil tapping, eraser crumbs all over, and her brow furrowed. She is struggling with the assignment.
Trevor dropped his backpack on the floor, sighed, and turned on his video game without saying a word to his mom. He had a bad day at school.
Giancarlo’s gloves and hat were on the table, his cheeks were red, and his boots left puddles on the floor. He just came in from playing in the snow.
Annabeth carried a giant book from the library, sat by herself, and opened to the middle right away. She loves reading and couldn’t wait to start.
Gloria’s sneakers were untied, her hair was messy, and she was breathing heavily as she entered the classroom late. She ran to get to school.
Ruth kept staring at the clock, packed up her things early, and smiled when the bell rang. She was excited to leave.
Nevaeh kept glancing at the door, straightened her desk twice, and smiled when her dad walked in. She was waiting for her dad to arrive.
DJ was rubbing his stomach, left his food untouched, and rested his head on his desk. He doesn’t feel well.
Samiyah clapped her hands, whispered to her friend, and kept pointing at the gift table. She is excited for a party.
Armani’s notebook was full of drawings, his math page was blank, and he looked out the window. He was daydreaming instead of doing his work.
Lucy’s new shoes had mud all over them, and she was holding a soccer ball with grass stains on her knees. She played soccer outside.
Cierra had tissues in her pocket, watery eyes, and a box of cough drops in her backpack. She has a cold.
Javier stood with his arms crossed, looked away from his friend, and wouldn’t answer when spoken to. He is upset or angry.
Jaxson had cake crumbs on his shirt, icing on his fingers, and tried to hide an empty plate. He ate the last piece of cake.
Luna’s desk was organized, her homework was complete, and she sat up straight when the teacher walked by. She is prepared and ready to learn.
Wesley stared at the dark clouds, pulled his hood over his head, and ran to grab his bike from the yard. A storm is coming.
Abby raised her hand quickly, had a wide smile, and her notes were filled with neat writing. She knows the answer and wants to share it.
Trevor stared at the floor, avoided eye contact, and whispered, “I forgot.” He forgot his homework.
Giancarlo peeked around the corner, whispered to his friends, and jumped out when they came near. He was trying to surprise them.
Annabeth set the table, placed forks and plates carefully, and lit candles. She is preparing for a special dinner.
Gloria held a microphone, tapped her foot nervously, and kept peeking at the audience. She is about to perform.
Ruth’s paper had neat, careful writing, and she erased often before rewriting. She was trying hard to do her best.
Nevaeh wore her new dress, brushed her hair extra carefully, and kept asking her mom when they were leaving. She is going somewhere special.
DJ rubbed his eyes, laid his head on the desk, and didn’t answer the teacher’s question. He is sleepy.
Samiyah had confetti in her hair, balloons on the table, and presents in front of her. It is her birthday party.
Armani brought in a box of tissues, cleaned the whiteboard, and helped pass out papers. He is being helpful.

Javier held his book upside down, peeked at his neighbor’s paper, and scribbled answers quickly. He was copying.
Jaxson carried a bucket, had wet sleeves, and sand stuck to his shoes. He was building sandcastles at the beach.
Luna leaned over her desk, shielded her paper with her hand, and wrote quickly. She didn’t want anyone to see her work.
Wesley sat apart from the group, looked down, and didn’t speak during the game. He felt left out.
Abby wore her team’s jersey, carried a water bottle, and tied her cleats tightly. She was getting ready for a sports game.
Trevor wiped sweat from his forehead, held his water bottle empty, and gasped for air. He is overheated or thirsty.
Giancarlo read his speech note cards again and again, tapped his foot, and kept checking the audience. He was nervous to present.
Annabeth smiled as she carried flowers, a “Congratulations” card, and balloons. She was celebrating someone’s achievement.
Gloria had safety goggles, rubber gloves, and a bubbling beaker. She was doing a science experiment.
Ruth placed cookies on a tray, set the timer on the oven, and wiped flour off her apron. She was baking.
Nevaeh carried a backpack full of snacks, wore hiking boots, and grabbed a walking stick. She was going hiking.
DJ wore pajamas, carried a sleeping bag, and asked where to put his pillow. He was staying overnight somewhere (like a sleepover).
Samiyah hummed to herself, tapped her pencil, and wrote words in neat stanzas. She was writing a poem.
Armani carried a fishing pole, had a bucket of worms, and wore tall boots. He was going fishing.
Lucy whispered to her friend, “Don’t tell anyone,” and tucked something in her desk. She was keeping a secret.
Cierra wore sunglasses, carried sunscreen, and sat under an umbrella at the beach. She was protecting herself from the sun.
Javier stacked blocks carefully, held his breath, and reached for another piece. He was building a tall tower.
Jaxson carried a flashlight, tiptoed through the dark hallway, and whispered to his friend. He was sneaking around at night.
Luna pressed her nose to the glass, stared at the presents, and whispered, “I can’t wait.” She was eager for Christmas or a birthday.
Wesley’s mom frowned at the muddy footprints, and Wesley quickly hid his shoes under the couch. He tracked mud inside.
Abby hugged her trophy, smiled widely, and waved at her classmates cheering. She won a competition.
