Introduction to Computing Systems
| Term | Definition |

| Hardware | The physical parts of the computer which you can touch |
| Input | The information computers get from users, devices, or other computers |
| Operating Software | Software that manages manages computer hardware (the mouse, the keyboard) and software, and that provides common services for computer programs |
| Output | The information computers give to users, devices, or other computers |
| Processing | The thinking work computers do to turn input into output |
| Productivity Software | Application software that helps users produce things, like documents, databases, presentations, spreadsheet reports, video, etc. |
| Software | The set of instructions for the computer to run a particular task or boot up |
| Storage | The act of saving information for later use or manipulation |
| RAM | Computer memory that can be accessed randomly at any time, allowing quick access and manipulation |
| ROM | Data storage that is firm, or hardwired, and cannot be easily altered or reprogrammed |
