TermDefinition
pH The measurement of how acidic or basic a substance is, on a scale of 0 (very acidic) to 14 (very basic).
Turbidity A measure of how clear the water is.
Algal Bloom A rapid increase in the population of algae in an aquatic system.
Nitrates A compound, found in fertilizer and waste products, that can contaminate water.
Phosphates A compound, found in waste and cleaning products, that can contaminate water.
Salinity The saltiness of a body of water.
Coliform Count Test of water contamination that indicates the extent of fecal matter present in the water.
Bioindicators An organism used to monitor the health of an ecosystem.
