Literary elements

TermDefinition
Charcterization is the process by which the writer reveals the personality of character
Direct charcterization tells the audidence what the personailty of the charcter is
Indirect charcterization shows things that reveal the personality of a charcter
There are 5 differnt methods of indirect characterization speech, thoughts, effects on others, actions looks (STEAL)
Characters are people or animals in a story
Main Characters are the main/most important charcters ina story
The Protagonist is who the story is mostly about
The Antagonist the charcter who causesa problem for the protagionist
Minor Characters are charcaters who are not as important also known as "supporting characters"
A Dynamic Character is a charcter whose attitudes and/or beliefs change ina story
A Static Character is a character whose attitude and/or do NOT change in a story
A Round Charcter is a character who is described in great detail
A Flat Character is a charcter
Literay Elements are the componets or pieces that amkes up a story or literay work
A Narrator is the "person" telling the story
Point-of-View is the perspective from which the narrator tells the story
There Are 3 Point-of-Views 1. First Person- the narrator tells the story (I,me,my,ours) 2. Third Person Limited- The narrator tells the story from one other characters point-of-view 3. Third Person Omniscient- The narrator can tell about past, present and future
The Setting is where a story takes place. It includes time of year, time of day, and time in history
