ABA 513
Module 1
| Term | Definition |
|---|---|
| Behavior Analysis | The science of behavior focusing on how the environment influences, learning, behavior, and choice-making. The goal of behavior analysis is to understand why organism do what they do. |
| Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) | The science of in which tactics derived from the principles of behavior are applied to improve socially significant behavior and experimentation is used to identify variables responsible for the change in behavior. |
| Verified Course Sequence (VCS) | A set of courses that have been reviewed, verified by the (ABAI) as meeting specific coursework requirements, content hours, and faculty standards, completing a VCS helps make it easier to apply for professional certification. |
| Association for Behavior Analysis International | ABAI |
| Behavioral Analysis | A field of study focused on criminal profiling, not the focus of this class. |
| Behavior Analyst Certification Board (BACB) | the leading national behavior analysis professional certification organization. |
| BACB task list | A list of professional knowledge and skills that serve as the foundation for the certification exam required for professional certification. |
| Registered Behavior Technician (RBT) | A paraprofessional certification in behavior analysis, requiring 40 hours of training and a supervised performance exam. RBT can only practice under close supervision of a BCBA. BCaBAs may help supervise. |
| Board Certified Assistant Behavior Analyst (BCaBA) | an undergraduate-level certification in behavior analysis requiring 225 hrs. of instruction. BCaBAs can supervise RBTs but must be supervised by a BCBA. |
| Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA) | A graduate level certification in behavior analysis requiring 315 hrs. of instruction, supr'd experience, and passing a credentialing exam. BCBAs must hold a graduate degree (MA/MS) or higher. BCBA can practice independently and supr RBTs and BCaBAs |
| Factual Questions (QN) | Questions (qn) that ask you to remember/reiterate specific details or pieces of information. Name the founder of applied behavior analysis. |
| Applied Questions (QN) | QNs that ask you to use information. Ex: Janice's boss praises her each time she completes an assignment, with the effect that Janice becomes more likely to complete tasks for the boss rather than other work. Question this is an ex of what procedure? |
| Conceptual Questions (QN) | QN that ask you to demonstrate understanding of larger ideas or principles. |
| Procrastination | A shorthand description of the temporal (time based) features of behavior where an organism appears to irrationally delay the completion of tasks until close to a deadline despite potential adverse consequences. |
| Temporal discounting | The phenomenon where organisms behave as if a future result is less valuable than a proximal (sooner) result; a kind of hyperbolic discounting. |
| Hyperbolic discounting | The phenomenon where organisms prioritize smallre4, sooner consequences over larger, later consequences. |
