VIC step 1 Circle- Circle the word you are trying to define in the passage and question.
VIC step 2 Bracket- Bracket the paragraph with the word and reread the sentence before and sentence after the word.
VIC step 3 Underline- Underline words that are important clues to the word's missing meaning.
VIC step 4 Predict- Create a prediction for the word's meaning by using P=definition. If you're not sure, explain how you feel about it by using positive +, neutral+/-, or negative -.
VIC step 5 Check- Check the answer choices against your prediction. Narrow down the choices. If you don't now what a choice means, keep it as a possibility.
VIC step 6 PITA: Plug In The Answer- Test your prediction by plugging it into the sentence. If it doesn't feel right, try different wording or start over.
