Ionic equilibria
| Term | Definition |
|---|---|
| Electrolyte | A substance that ionizes in aqueous solutions |
| Strong electrolytes | Substance that is completely ionize in water |
| Weak electrolyte | Substance that partially ionize in water |
| Non-electrolyte | Substance that do not ionize in water |
| pH-partition hypothesis | Absorption of a weak electrolyte is determined mainly by extent to which drug exists in unionized form at site of absorption |
| Bronsted-Lowry of a weak acid | Proton donor |
| Bronsted-Lowry weak base | Proton acceptor |
| Lewis Electronic of weak acid | Electron acceptor |
| Lewis electronic of weak base | Electron donor |
| Buffer | A solution that resists pH when acid or bases are added to it |
| Henderson-Hasselbalch equation | Used to calculate the pH of a buffer |
| Buffer capacity | Used to measure the strength of a buffer |
| Amphoteric electrolytes | Electrolytes that have both acidic and basic functional group |
| polyproctic acid | An acid containing two or more ionizable hydrogens |
