Atom the building block of all materials
Atomic model scientists’ representation of an atom
Atomic number the number of protons in a nucleus
Atomic symbol a short-hand notation for describing an atom
Electron a small, negatively charged particle; clouds of electrons surround the nucleus of an atom
Mass number the number of protons and neutrons in an atom
Neutral having no overall charge
Neutron a particle with no electric charge; it is found in the nucleus of an atom
Nucleus a group of neutrons and protons at the centre of an atom
Proton a positively charged particle in the nucleus
