| algebraic expression | An expression containing numbers, variable, and/or operations |
| associative property | The way in which three or more numbers are grouped for addition or multiplication does not change their sum or product, respectively |
| coefficient | A numerical factor in a term of an algebraic expression. A number that multiplies a variable |
| commutative property | The order in which two numbers are added or multiplied does not change their sum or product, respectively |
| constant term | The term in an expression that doesn't change value |
| decreased | Made something smaller |
| difference | The result when one number is subtracted from another OR how two amounts are not equal |
| distributive property | States that mulitplying a sum by a number is the same as multiplying each addend by the number and then adding the products |
| double number line | When the zeros align, the vertical values create equivalent ratios |
| equivalent | Naming the same number, quantity, amount, or measure |
| equivalent expressions | An expression that names the same number, quantity, amount, or measure |

| like terms | Terms that contain the same variable which are raised to the exact same power. Only the coefficients can be different |
| numerical expression | A mathematical phrase including numbers and operations without an equal sign |
| order of operations | Rules that define which procedures to perform first in order to evaluate a given mathematical expression PEMDAS |
| power | The number of times to repeat the base number and multiply (AKA exponent) |
| prime number | A whole number that has exactly two different factors, 1 and itself |
| product | The answer to a multiplication problem |
