| shelter | Somewhere that provides protection from rain, cold, or danger |
| atmosphere | 1. The feeling you get in a place. 2. The air and other gases around the Earth, or the quality of the air in a particular place |
| bear | A large animal with thick fur |
| beaver | An animal with short legs, thick fur, and a wide flat tail |
| block | A group of buildings with streets on all sides |
| financial | Related to money and the control of money |
| grassland | An area of land covered in grass |
| marsh | An area of land that is very wet all year round |
| neighbourhood | The area of a town or city where you live |
| potential | The possibility that a place or person can develop and become different or better |
| resident | A person who lives in a place |
| skin | The outer covering of an animal or person |
| skyscraper | A very tall building in a city |
| spot | A particular place |
| turkey | A large bird traditionally eaten on Christmas or Thanksgiving |
| brick | Solid blocks used to make the outside walls of a building |
| cloth | Material used for making clothes, curtains, etc. |
| design | The way something is put together and how it looks |
| flood | When large amounts of water pour into an area |
| ger | A kind of tent used by people in Central and East Asia |
| rock | A very hard, solid substance that forms the surface of the Earth |
| stilt | Long, strong supports used to keep a building above the ground |
| untidy | Not neat or well organized |
| artist | Someone who draws or paints pictures or makes sculptures |
| bench | A long chair for more than one person to sit on |
| benefit | Something good or useful that you get from something |
| centre | The middle of something |
| clap | To hit your hands together to make a noise |
| coast | The region of land alongside the sea |
| development | A set of new buildings or changes made to an area of land |
| dreamy | Quietly pleasant and peaceful |
| economy | All the commercial and business activity in a country |
| energy | The ability to do things without getting tired |
| fact | A piece of information which is true |
| history | All the things that have happened in the past |

| nature | All the plants, animals, mountains, rivers, etc. that exist independently |
| nod | To move your head up and down to show agreement or enjoyment |
| origin | The way something started or where it came from |
| parade | A big public event where people or vehicles go through the streets |
| person | A man, woman, or child |
| reforestation | The planting of new trees to bring a forest back after trees have been cut down |
| respectfully | In a way that shows someone is important and should be treated politely |
| rhyme | A word that ends in the same sound as another word |
| romance | The feelings and behavior of people who are beginning to love each other |
| shine | To have a happy look on your face |
| tap | To hit something sharply and repeatedly eg your foot on the ground in time to music |
| budget | The amount of money available to spend on something |
| fit | Healthy and able to do physical exercise without getting tired |
| mix | A lot of different people or things together in the same place |
| nightmare | A very frightening dream or an unpleasant situation |
| picturesque | Very attractive, often because it is old-fashioned and interesting |
| reasonable | sensible. Not too expensive and good value for money |
| bright | Can be seen or heard clearly because it shines or gives off strong signals |
| cordless | Equipment that works with a battery and is not physically connected to electricity |
| downtown | The central district of a city or town where shops and businesses are |
| gasoline | The American word for petrol, the liquid used in cars |
| ironic | Surprising because it seems to be the opposite of what you would expect |
| noise | Radio signals that interfere with scientific equipment |
| signal | Electrical waves that carry sound and pictures |
| store | The American word for shop |
| telescope | An instrument that makes things far away seem nearer and larger |
| unique | There is only one of it and nothing else is the same |
| utilize | To use something |
| wireless | Technology that uses radio waves to send information |
