exocrine/endocrine

QuestionAnswer
exocrine glands secrete chemical substances into ducts that lead either to other organs or out of the body
The structure of the exocrine glands is divided into two parts: Ductal portion and glandular portion
ductile portion (of sweat gland) is tubular in shape. It is a single, thick, cuboidal cell wall that helps in the movement of the secretion
glandular portion is responsible for the production of the secreted substance. It is a circular or elongated cluster of cells.
functions of exocrine glands Regulate body temperature,LubricationLactationHelps in digestionHelps in reproduction
types of exocrine glands merocrine, apocrine, holocrine
merocrine glands Exocrine glands that secrete without losing cellular material
appocrine glands a sweat gland that secretes a viscous fluid into a hair follicle (as in the armpit or groin), is lined with a single layer of usually columnar cells with eosinophilic cytoplasm, and typically does not become active until puberty
holocrine glands Exocrine glands whose secretions are made up of disintegrated cells
Lacrimal Glands- include tear ducts near each eye.
Pancreas- Secretes pancreatic juice along with the digestive enzymes into the stomach.
salivary glands Glands of the mouth that produce saliva, a digestive secretion
Liver- secretes bile that contains salts and digestive substances.
Mammary Glands- secrete breast milk.
Eccrine Sweat Glands- respond primarily to elevated body temperature by the release salty water through perspiration.
pancreatic gland Regulates the level of blood sugar in the blood
Pancreas is the largest exocrine gland which is 99% exocrine and 1% endocrine.
endocrine glands Glands of the endocrine system that release hormones into the bloodstream
