conclusion a specific judgment or opinion on a topic
paraphrase to restate an author’s text in one’s own words
relevant logically connected or related to a topic
alliteration the repetition of consonant sounds, usually at the beginnings of words or in stressed syllables
development the process of growing, changing, or advancing
evidence information that provides proof of something or makes something clear
inference a conclusion drawn based on evidence
interpretation a version or adaptation of a story
perspective a way of thinking about or seeing a situation
point of view the position from which a story is narrated
affix a word part added to the beginning or end of a word to change the word’s meaning
homophone a word that sounds the same as another word but has a different meaning or spelling
prefix an affix added to the beginning of a word
suffix an affix added to the end of a word
word root the base part of a word
gerund a verbal that functions as a noun
infinitive a verbal formed with "to” plus the verb stem; can function as a noun, an adjective, or an adverb
modify to change by adding a more specific description
participle a verbal that functions as an adjective
verb stem the simplest form of a verb
verbal a verb form that can be used as a noun, an adverb, or an adjective
