Terms used in journalism by Teacher Thess

| W5H | refers to the facts of an event (who, what, where, when, why, how) |
| graphics | pictures, images, photographs, maps, charts |
| byline | a line at the head of a written article giving the writer's name |
| caption | tells what the photograph is depicting |
| editor | the person who is responsible for checking the facts and quality of writing of all the articles |
| body | details and additional information provided in short paragraphs |
| quotation | a statement made by an expert or witness |
| news reporter | a person who researches, asks questions and writes articles |
| lead | the beginning or the first paragraph of the story |
| inverted pyramid | a method organizing a news story such that the most important information is in the lead; the remaining information is presented in order of decreasing importance |
| masthead | the title of a newspaper or magazine |
| headline | catches the readers' attention and gives clues to the story's content |
