| race | a sports event in which you try to go a certain distance faster than other people |
| spectator | a person who watches something, such as a sporting event |
| allowed | having permission to do something |
| beard | the hair growing on the lower part of a man's face |
| goal | when a player succeeds in putting the ball into the net of a game such as football or basketball |
| goalkeeper | the player in a sport such as football who tries to stop the ball going into the goal |
| hole | an opening into or through something |
| match | a game played by two people or teams |
| moustache | hair which a man grows above his upper lip |
| obligatory | required or demanded |
| pitch | a flat, well cared for area of land where you play games such as cricket |
| player | someone who takes part in a game or sport |
| point | a unit of scoring in a game |
| referee | a judge of the play in games and sports |
| rule | what you are allowed or not allowed to do |
| team | A group of people who work or play together |
| winner | the one who does better than everyone else |
| athlete | a person trained to compete in sports |
| baseball | a ball game played with a bat and ball between two teams of 9 players |
| boxing | fighting with the fists |
| chess | a game for two players who move their 16 pieces according to specific rules |
| gymnastics | a sport that involves exercises intended to display strength, balance and agility |
| hard | difficult |
| runner | somone who takes part in a foot race |
| teamwork | collaborative efforts of people to accomplish common objectives |
| commentator | expert who analyzes, explains and gives opinions on events |
| crowd | a large number of people gathered together |
| entertainment | something that pleases, amuses, or interests, especially a performance or show |
| lie | to make your body flat, so your head is on the same level as your feet |
| mixture | two or more things combined |
| ring | in sports such as boxing, this is the area which is roped off for play. |
| scream | shout very loud |
| throw | to make something go through the air using a quick action with your hand |
| wave | repeated regular movement from one point and back eg with the hand |
| wrestling | the sport of hand-to-hand struggle between unarmed contestants who try to throw each other down |
| advert | short for advertisment. A short text trying to make you buy or do something. |
| enthusiasm | intense and eager enjoyment, interest, or approval |
| fit | healthy, especially because you exercise regularly |
| headline | a heading at the top of an article or page in a newspaper or magazine. |
| important | of great significance or value |
| interested | to be engaged or excited about something |
| join | to get together or meet; to become included |
| membership | belonging to a group |
| notice | information about something that is in a public place for people to see. |
| talent | an ability to do something well |
| bless | to dedicate someone or something to God or to make holy in God's name |
| celebration | a joyous ceremony or gathering |
| display | something shown to the public |
| lead | to be at the front |
| medal | an award for winning a championship or commemorating some other event |
| pole | a long thick piece of wood |
| prize | something that is won in a contest or given as an award |
| proud | pleased with yourself or someone else |
| rich | to have a lot of something eg money |
| rival | opponent |
| rodeo | an exhibition of cowboy skills |
