Who was King Richard I? The English King who led the third, ill fated Crusade to seize Palestine.
Who was Saladin? The Turkish leader of the Muslim forces that prevented England from taking Palestine.
Why did Christians call Palestine the "Holy Land?" Because it was where Jesus had lived, preached and died.
What happened to the peasant Crusaders? They attacked Jews in Germany and blamed it on the Jews for Jesus' death.

What were the Middle Ages? the period lasting from about 500 to about 1500
What is medieval? Another name for the Middle Ages.

Who were monks? Religious men who lived apart from society in isolated communities.
What were monasteries? Communities of monks.
Who was Benedict? Monk responsible for creating the Benedictine Rule, a set of rules for monks.
Who was Charlemagne? A warrior and king who led the Franks in building a huge empire.
Why is Europe considered to be a part of Eurasia? Because it is a large landmass that includes both Europe and Asia.
How was Europe ruled and the beginning of the Middle Ages? Kings divided Europe into many small kingdoms.
Why did Patrick go to Ireland? Because he wanted to convert Ireland.

Who was King Ferdinand? Aragon prince who married Isabella of Castile to rule a united Spain.
Who was Queen Isabella? Castilian princess who ruled Spain with her husband, Ferdinand of Aragon.
What was the Spanish Inquisition? The organization of priests charged with seeking out and punishing non-Christians.
