Expulsion to the seven years war to the revolution

Why did soldiers fight in straight lines? they fought like this because the muskets were so inaccurate and this was the only way to hit each other

Which country ended up in possession of Acadia? Britain
What did Acadians have to do if they wanted to remain in Acadia? Swear an oath of allegiance to the King of England
What was left out of the first oath the Acadians took? The Acadians did not have to bear arms (fight) for the British

Louisbourg The fortress the French built in Cape Breton after they lost Acadia to the British
Halifax the fortress the British built to counter Louisbourg
How many years did the Acadians live in peace under their first oath? Forty years
Fort Beausejour a French fortress that was captured by the British – some Acadians were found fighting with the French
Afterward Beausejour was captured the British demand that the Acadians take the “full” oath of allegiance – what did this mean? That the Acadians would have to fight (to bear arms) for the British in any future wars
What did the Acadians say to this second oath? They refused to take it – They felt their first oath was good enough
What did the British do to the Acadians when they refused this second oath? They deported them – kicked them out of Acadia
What happened to a third of the Acadians once they were deported? They died (over 3000 of the 10,000 who were deported died of disease, hardship and shipwrecks)
As the Acadians were being deported a huge war broke out (considered the first real world war) What was this war called? The Seven Years War

Louis Joseph Montcalm – the French general in North America during the Seven Years War
What French fortress needed to be captured before the British could sail into Quebec and attack? Louisbourg
Why did the French at Louisbourg not surrender after being bombarded for 40 days? They knew that winter was coming and if they could hold out that the British would not be able to attack Quebec until the following year
The Battle of the Plains of Abraham The British (under Wolfe) defeat the French (under Montcalm) at Quebec. The battle lasts only 15 minutes
At the end of the Seven Years War, what territory did the French choose to have returned to them during the peace treaty? The French chose two Caribbean islands over all of New France
Why did New France choose the Caribbean Islands over New France? They grew sugar on the islands and it was worth more money than the fur trade in New France
What are two reasons the thirteen British colonies were angry with Britain after winning the Seven Years War? 1. They were not allowed to take the French and First Nations land 2. They were taxed by Britain to help pay for the war
