Separation technique
| Term | Definition |

| Distillation | A process of separating a solvent from a solution OR separating 2 liquids |
| Evaporation | To separate a soluble solid from a solution |
| Crystallization | The process of producing crystals from a solution by evaporating the solvent |
| Fractional distillation | To separate 2 or more liquids that have different boiling points |
| Filtration | To separate an insoluble solid from a liquid |
| Chromatography | To separate dyes from an ink |
| Soluble | A substance that can dissolve in the solvent |
| Insoluble | A substance that can not be dissolved in the solvent |
| Solute | the substance that dissolves in the solvent. |
| Solvent | a liquid that the solute dissolves into. |
| Solution | a mixture of the solute dissolved in the solvent |
| Pure | A substance that is made out of one type of particle/chemical element/compound |
| Impure | a substance that is made out of more than one element or a compound. |
| Mixture | is two or more elements or compounds NOT chemically bonded together. |
