Equations for the mechanics section of AQA Further Maths A level.
Term | Definition |
---|---|
Work done by a constant force | W=F𝑥 |
Work done by a variable force | W=∫F d𝑥 (from 0 to 𝑥) |
Work done by a constant force at angle θ | W = F𝑥cosθ |
Power | P = W/t or P=Fv |
Kinetic energy | KE = 0.5mv² |
Gravitational Potential energy | GPE = mgh |
Hooke's law | T = (λ𝑥/l) = k𝑥 |
Elastic Potential energy | EPE = 0.5(λ𝑥²)/l = 0.5k𝑥² |
Momentum | p = mv |
Impulse | Ft = mv - mu |
Coefficient of restitution range and meaning of limits | 0≤e≤1 e=0 means inelastic (no rebound) e=1 means perfectly elastic |
Coefficient of restitution between two objects | e = (v₂-v₁) / (u₁-u₂) |
Coefficient of restitution between an object and a wall | e = v/u |
Impulse of a variable force | ∫F dt (from 0 to t) = mv - mu |
Arc length | S = rθ |
Angular velocity | ω = (dθ) / (dt) |
Velocity around a curve | v = rω |
Time when travelling around a curve | T = 2π/ω |
Acceleration around a curve | a = rω² = v²/r |
