| Term | Definition |

| random sample | a sample that fairly represents a population because each member has an equal chance of being chosen |
| population inference | to make a population inference (based on sample information given), write and solve a proportion |
| To find percent using a proportion | Write and solve a proportion part/whole = %/100 |
| Mean | the arithmetic average of a distribution, obtained by adding the scores and then dividing by the number of scores |
| Median of a set of numbers | the middle score in a distribution; half the scores are above it and half are below it If there are two numbers, add them and divide by two |
| Mode | the most frequently occurring score(s) in a distribution |
| Range | the difference between the highest and lowest scores in a distribution |
| Dot Plot | a graphical device that summarizes data by the number of dots above each data value on the horizontal axis |
| Box Plot (Box and Whisker Plot) | a graphical representation showing the five-number summary of data (minimum, lower quartile, median, upper quartile, maximum) |
| Interquartile Range (IQR) | the difference between the first and third quartiles |
