San Francisco Conference Meeting of world nations to establish a international organization for collective security which would later become the United Nations.
Central Intelligence Agency civilian intelligence agency of the United States government. Its primary function is obtaining and analyzing information about foreign governments, corporations, and persons in order to advise public policymakers.
Marshall Plan U.S plan initiated by the Secretary of State George Marshall and implemented from 1948 to 1951. To aid in the economic recovery of Europe after WW2 by offering certain European countries substantial funds.
Berlin Airlift Event where U.S. and British airplanes delivered supplies to West Berlin because of the Berlin Blockade
Warsaw Pact Treaty unifying communist nations of Europe. Signed May 1955 by Russia, Albania, Bulgaria, Czechoslovakia, east Germany, Hungary, Poland, and Romania after signing of the NATO treaty in 1949. Communist China dedicated support but did not sign warsaw pact
Korean War Conflict between North and South Korea, lasting from 1950 to 1953. United States along with other UN countries fought on the side of south Koreans while China fought on the side of the north Koreans
Secretary of State John Foster Dulles Secretary of State during Eisenhower's presidency; constructed many elements of the U.S. foreign policy in the cold war with the Soviet Union
SEATO Alliance formed to prevent communism from spreading to other places
CENTO mutual treaty organization that composed of Turkey, Iran, Pakistan, and the united kingdom
ANZUS treaty signed to protect the security of the Pacific
Suez Crisis crisis in which egypt tried to gain control of the Suez Canal which was controlled by the French and British
U-2 incident issues between the US and the Soviet Union that began with the shooting down of a U.S. plane that was flying over the Soviet Union
Bay of Pigs Invasion failed attack launched by the CIA during Kennedy's administration to push Cuban leader Fidel Castro from power
Cuban Missile crisis confrontation that brought the United States close to war because of Soviet missiles in Cuba
Limited Nuclear Test Ban Treaty treaty signed by 71 nations which prohibits all nuclear test explosions including those conducted underground
Berlin Wall Heavily fortified barrier put in place by communist to prevent East Germans from escaping to the west
Peace Corps U.S. organization that trains and sends volunteers to help poor people in other countries
Six-Day War war fought between Israel and the neighboring states in which Israel captured large tracts of Arab territory
Yom Kippur War War in which Egypt and Syria waged launched a surprise attack on Israel during a sacred Jewish festival
Dien Bien Phu town in NW Vietnam which was a site of defeat of French forces by Vietminh ending the French rule of Indochina
Vietminh member of a communist-dominated nationalist movement that fought for Vietnamese independence from Japanese and French rule
Vietcong communist-led army and guerrilla force in South Vietman that fought its governmnent and was supported by North Vietnam
