Precipitation the falling to earth of any form of water (rain or snow or hail or sleet or mist)
Condensation The cooling of water vapor to form liquid water droplets in the atmosphere to form clouds
Evaporation The process by which molecules at the surface of a liquid absorb enough energy to change to a gas (water vapor).
transpiration Evaporation of water from the leaves of a plant and enters the atmosphere as water vapor
run-off rainfall that is not absorbed by soil and travels to the ocean
water vapor water in the form of a gas in the atmosphere in the water cycle
sun source of energy to drive evaporation in the water cycle
gravity A force that pulls objects toward each other, triggers precipitation to fall and water to flow
clouds a visible mass of condensed water vapor floating in the atmosphere
cirrus Wispy, often high and made of ice crystals
cumulus Fluffy, heaped clouds which start to build at lower levels
stratus Clouds that form in flat layers and often cover much of the sky.
gas phase of matter where molecules are spread apart and have high amounts of energy
liquid phase of matter where molecules are close together and slide past each other
solid phase on matter where molecules are packed together and vibrate, low amount of energy
excretion animals give off extra water by urinating or sweating
