Circulatory system

QuestionAnswer
What is the circulatory system made up of? The heart, blood vessels and blood.
What do the red blood cells do? Carry oxygen to the body cells.
What do the white blood cells do? Fight infection.
What do platelets do? Clot blood when blood vessels are damaged.
What is a function of blood? To help keep the body at the correct temperature. (37°C)
Where are blood cells made? In bone marrow.
How much chambers does the heart have? 4
Which way does blood flow from the pulmonary artery? Out of the heart.
Which way does blood flow from the pulmonary vein? Into the heart.
How much types of blood vessels are there? 3
What type of muscular walls do arteries have? Thick walls.
What type of muscular walls do veins have? Thin walls.
Which way do arteries carry blood? Away from the heart.
Which way do veins carry blood? Towards the heart.
What do valves do? Prevent blood from flowing backwards.
What are the upper chambers of the heart called? Atria (Singular = atrium)
What are the lower cambers of the heart called? Ventricles
What is the piece of muscle called that separates the left and right side of the heart called? Septum
How thick is a capillary? Single cell thick.
Do arteries have valves? No
Do veins have valves? Yes
What do arteries divide into? Capillaries.
What muscle is the heart made of? Cardiac muscle
Approximately how big is the heart? About the size of someones clenched fist.
Where does deoxygenated blood go? It goes to the lungs.
