Why did David decide to live in Jerusalem? If he located his capital in his homeland of Judah the northern tribes would be upset. If he located it in the north, the people of Judah would be angry. Jerusalem was located between these areas and controlled by no one tribe.
Why did David fail to bring the Ark of the Covenant into Jerusalem the first time? David did not follow God's instructions for transporting the Ark. It was to be carried on the shoulders of Levite priests. Instead he had a cart built and put the Ark on the cart. When it began to wobble, a man tried to steady it and was struck dead.
Why was David able to perform sacrifices and dress like a priest when his predecessor Saul had been punished for sacrificing? Saul's sacrifices were business transactions (I do this for you...you do that for me). David sacrificed out of pure love for God. He danced and made offerings out of devotion to God.
Why did David want to build a temple? He did not think it was right that he should live in a house built of cedar while the Ark was kept in a tent.
