QuestionAnswer
Cillum: Short hairlike projection that produces movement in protists.
Flagellum: Structure used by protists for movement; it produces movement in a wavelike motion.
Protists: The Junk Drawer= most diverse kingdom. Eukaryotes: mostly unicellular but some multicellular (sea Kelp) live in a moist environment. Fungus plants and animals got rise from protista. Do not need a cell wall.
Chitin: A complex carbohydrate that makes up the cell walls of fungi and is also found in the external skeletons of anthropods
Hyphae: One of the long, slender filaments which makes up the body of a fungus.
Mycelium: Densely branched network of the hyphae of a fungus
Lichen A symbiotic association between a fungus and a photsynthetic organism.
Epidemic: A widespread occurrence of an infectious disease in a community at a particular time.
Pandemic: A widespread occurrence of an infectious disease over a whole country or the world at a particular time.
Fungi Help the ecosystem maintain homeostasis by breaking down dead orgainisms and recycling essential elemants and nutriemts. Produce powerful enzymes that digest food outside their bodies.
Parasite: Parasitic fungi can cause serious disease in plants and animals by disrupting homeostasis.
Decompser: an organism, especially a soil bacterium, fungus, or invertebrate, that decomposes organic material.
Pseupods (false feet) found in amoeba (gather food+ move)
Symbiotic relationship (Mutualism) A protist in termite to help it digest wood.
Protozoans Animal like protists. -Ushually heterotrophs -Ushually reproduce asexualy -Ex. Amoeba (move by psuesopods). Paramecium
Algae Plalnt like protists. -Autotrophs: carry out photosynthesis, contain chloryphyll -many colors depending on pigment -Not plant, no roots, stems, leaves.
Fungus like protists Heterotrophic: decompose organic material -cause damage to crops. -Ex). Slime, Mold, Downy, Mildews). -Slime molds help to build roads,
