Why do some brains enjoy fear? reading

why do some people like the feeling of being scared? -the Natural high from the fight-or-flight response can feel great. (Evidence shows that people respond differently to thrilling situations.) -because it leaves them with a sense of confidence after its over
What is one hormone that is released during scary events? Dopamine. And some people still respond differently than others do when the hormone is released.
What does Zald say about what some peoples brains lack? describes it as "brakes" on how much dopamine is released and re-uptake in the brain. -meaning some people are going to really enjoy thrilling situations while others not so much.
What happens in our brains when we're scared? it releases hormones (ex. adrenaline, endorphins, and dopamine)
Is it different when we're scared "In a fun way" versus actually being afraid? Yes it's different. By knowing we are in a safe environment, then we are capable of being scared, but then laughing it off. (Its because we know the fear trigger is "fake" or not a real threat.
What qualities do "scary things" share across cultures, or does it vary widely? -each culture has its own monster *all are similar because they have returned somehow from the afterlife *they might be non-human or semi-human (In general they defy the laws if nature *Monsters are the embodiment of death
Can we learn fear? Yes, this means our socialization and the society in which we are raised in, is going to influence what we are scared of.
Why are most thing scary? Because they defy the laws of nature, or really just "unnatural" terrifying
why do we created monsters, of the living dead? Because humans have a hard time wrapping their minds around what happens when we die. Yet the monsters still don't follow the laws of nature, making it terrifying
When artist decided to paint scary scenes on the walls of roller coaster rides, what were they called? Darn Rides
How long have haunted attraction industries lasted? since the mid-1800s
Whos is Barnum? Owns the Barnum American Museum. (very famous) Also known for being half of the Ringling Brothers + Barnum & Bailey Circus
Describe Barnum's museum. had monkey torsos, + fish tails attached to it.
Is it true that if you meet somebody in a fearful situation, your more inclined to fall in love with them, than in a low-stress situation? Yes, we do build a special closeness with those we are with when we’re in an excited state. This is because we release powerful hormones, like oxytocin, when we are happy/afraid, that make those moments stick in our brain.
Why can building a close relationship during a scary event be good? Humans are social & emotional beings. We need others in times of stress, so the fact that our bodies have evolved to make sure we feel close to those we are with when afraid makes sense and is normal.
