M.A.N.I.A What does each stand letter stand for, and how it attributd to causing WWI. Militarism - Strong military build on countries. Allies - Treaties and or friendship with them fighting on your side. Nationalism - Extreme pride. Imperalism - Stealing others land from them.
Know the definitions of the following vocabulary: Stalemate - Nobody wins, in the middle. Lusitania - Passenger boat that sunk and killed citizens from Germans. U-boats - Boats that send off torpedos to take down ships/boats. Fourteen Points - The agreement of peace and change.
Know the definitions of the following vocabulary (PART 2): Trench warfare - Fighting other enemies while in a protective trench.
Which main countries made up the Central powers? German Empire and Austria-Hungary.
Which main countries made up the Allied Powers? Great Britian and France.
What events happened to cause the United States to FINALLY enter WWI? Germany asked Mexico to help Germany if America entered the war. Plus Germany torpedoed ships with the American flag on it.
United States declared war on Germany on APril 13,1912. Realistically, was the United States joining a war against ONLY Germany? Explain why or why not. No. Because Germany has many allies of the Allied Powers. Many of them would defend Germany.
What side (ally group) did the United States join when they joined WWI? Allies.
How did the U.S. government increase food supplies for the troops? They told Americans to lessen the consumption of food. Food factories began making things for the war instead.
Why did Americans grow their own "victory gardens" ? To support the American army and ration food to help.
During WWI soldiers engaged in the trench warfare. 1) Describe the conditions in the trenches. Muddy, unsanitary, dead bodies, rats ll over and slept on faces before. Infection, etc.
What were the soldiers often like when they returned home (shell shock - what were the symptoms?) Some couldn't walk and had to be in a wheelchair, some skipped while walking and had no control over it.
Near the end of the war, Germany asked for an armistice. What happened under armistice? The fighting stopped. They discussed with France in a private railroad car.
Woodrow Wilson's 14 points called for a "League of Nations". What is the "League of nations", and why was congress against it? It was a peaceful treaty for countries after the war. Congress was against it because America could've gotten involved in future wars with it.
World War I ended with the Treaty of Versallies. Name at least 3 "punishments" Germany recieved under this treaty. Germany took fault for the war. Germany has to pay billions in damages. Germany could have no air-force.
