Patient Zero

Pandemic is a serious outbreak of an infectious disease that has spread worldwide. It affects a large number of individuals.
Epidemic is when an infectious disease quickly spreads within a community. This is different from a pandemic because the disease remains within a specific area.
Plague is a serious disease that affects humans and other mammals. It is caused by a bacterium called Yersinia pestis.
Patient Zero is a term used to describe the first person that presented symptoms.
Epidemiologist is a scientist that studies how diseases are spread; they are disease detectives. They study outbreaks to find evidence on how to prevent the spread of disease and improve the public’s health.
Outbreak is a sudden increase in cases of a disease/ illness.
Microbe are tiny living things that are found all around us. They are too small to be seen. Some make people sick, but others are good for our health. The most common types are bacteria, viruses and fungi.
Transmission is when an infected person touches or exchanges body fluids with someone else. This can happen before an infected person knows they are sick.
Contaminated when something is made unfit for use or ingestion because it has been affected by toxic or harmful substances.
Hygiene a standard of cleanliness for an environment or being.
