What was the result of Jackson’s invasion? Spain gave up its claim to Florida.
What was the main point of the Monroe Doctrine in 1823? Europe can not interfere with any territory in America and it was of limits to colonization.
What are the negative results of a growing population? Crime Rate,overpopulation, and sanitation.
What three taxed based departments were created as a result of this? Police, Fire departments,and the Sanitation department.
What diseases are generally seen in unsanitary and crowded areas? Cholera and Typhoid
When were women finally allowed to attend college? 1830s
What was the most lucrative trade at the time? Farming
What were the four main farming resources grown in the south? Cotton,Tobacco,Rice, and Sugar Cane.
Prior to the cotton gin, how much could one person separate in one day? 1 Pound.
What was happening around that time that led to cotton being so lucrative? Text style Mills were popping up.
Despite Congress passing laws forbidding foreign imports of slaves, why did the slave population keep rising? The rich people were breeding them.
What was a yeoman farmer? A person with less than 2 acres of land that they handle themselves.
What did slave codes forbid African American slaves from doing? Any rights that a white person had a black didnt this includes reading and writing.
How did the development of manufacturing machines change society? Skilled artisans giving away to unskilled workers.
What is a “free enterprise system”? People or businesses were able with limited liability.
Why did the move to corporations encourage innovation? By allowing businesses to sell stocks and lowering investeres liabilities they were encouraging growth.
What are the three popular inventions of the time? Telegraph,Cotton Gin, and interchangeable parts.
What is a labor union? An organized form to support workers' interest.
Why were labor unions so important? Labors were facing low pay,unsafe working conditions, and long working hours.
What was the difference between the task system and the gang system? Task system just gave them chores and then they were done. Gang system worked them till sun up till sun down.
What is Stockholm Syndrome? A coping mechanism to a captive or abusiver which usually involves positive feelings.
What was the Missouri Compromise? Admitting Main as a free state and Missouri as a slave state. Nothing north of the Missouri bottom border could be a slave state.
What practice was started in the election of 1828? Mudsling. Mudsling is the action of spreading propaganda about your political opponent.
