| equivalent decimals | decimals that name the same part of a whole |
| ascending | numbers arranged from least to greatest |
| descending | numbers arranged from greatest to least |
| compatible numbers | numbers that are easy to compute with mentally |
| Associative Property of Addition | states that addends can be regrouped and the sum remains the same |
| Commutative Property of Addition | states that addends can be added in any order and the sum remains the same |
| compensation | adjusting one or more numbers to make a computation easier and balancing the adjustment by changing the sum or difference |
| underestimate | result of using lesser numbers to estimate a sum or product |
