| Argument | an author's main reason for or against an issue |
| Audience | the intended target group for an author's message |
| Con | an opposing argument |
| Convince | to make a person agree or believe by arguing or showing evidence |
| Compare | to examine in order to discover likenesses or similarities |
| Evidence | specific details or facts that supports an inference or idea |
| Exaggeration | to stretch a statement beyond what is actual or true |
| Persuade | cause to do something by reason or argument |
| Position | also called claim, an author's viewpoint on a topic or issue |
| Pro | an argument in favor of something |
| Support | to back up or provide evidence for |
| Invalid Reasoning | argument is one whose conclusion is not proven |
| Valid Reasoning | provides all the information (evidence) needed to prove its conclusion. |
