Argumentative Text Vocabulary

TermDefinition
Claim A statement that the author is trying to prove is true.
Evidence Proof that the author uses to back up a claim. The best evidence is factual.
Counter-Claim A statement that opposes the claim. Shows the other side.
Rebuttal Reasons why the counter claim is as valid as the claim.
Prove To try to establish the truth of something.
Fact Something that has been proven true.
Opinion A personal view, belief, or judgement.
Biased A piece of writing that focuses more on opinions than facts.
Reasons The main points made in your essay to justify your claim.
Argument A process of feelings towards a certain topic.
