solutions

TermDefinition
Soluble we mean capable of being dissolved
solutions is a homogeneous mixture of two or more substances uniformly dispersed through out a single phase
solvent the dissolving medium in a solution
solute the substance dissolved in the solution
suspension particles in solvent are so large that they settle out unless the mixture is constantly stirred
colloids particles that are intermediate in size between those in solution and suspensions form
electrolyte a substance that dissolves in water to give a solution that conducts electric current
nonelectrolyte a substance that dissolve in water to give a solution that does not conduct electric current
solution equilibrium the physical state in which the opposing processes of dissolution and crystallization
unsaturated solutions contains less solute than a saturated solution under the existing condition
supersaturated solution solution that contains more dissolve solute than a saturated solution contains under the same conditions
solubility of a substance is amount of that substance required to form a saturated solution with specific amount of solvent a specified temperature
hydration the solutions process with water as a solvent
immiscible liquids that are not soluble in each other
miscible liquids that dissolve freely in one another in any proportion
Henry's law the solubility of a gas in a liquid is directly proportional to the partial pressure of gas on the surface of liquids
effervescence the rapid escape of a gas from liquid in which it is dissolved
solvated a solute particle that is surrounded by solvent
enthalpy the net amount of solute dissolves in a solvent
concentration solution is measure of the amount of solute in a given amount of solvent
molarity number of moles of solute in one liter solution
Molality concentration of solution expressed in moles

Use these flashcards to help memorize information. Look at the large card and try to recall what is on the other side. Then click the card to flip it. If you knew the answer, click the green Know box. Otherwise, click the red Don't know box.

When you've placed seven or more cards in the Don't know box, click "retry" to try those cards again.

If you've accidentally put the card in the wrong box, just click on the card to take it out of the box.

You can also use your keyboard to move the cards as follows:

If you are logged in to your account, this website will remember which cards you know and don't know so that they are in the same box the next time you log in.

When you need a break, try one of the other activities listed below the flashcards like Matching, Snowman, or Hungry Bug. Although it may feel like you're playing a game, your brain is still making more connections with the information to help you out.
