Slope

Slope vocabulary

TermDefinition
Slope Steepness of a line. The slant of the line. The m in the equation.
Slope-intercept form The equation y = mx + b
Y- intecept The b in the equation. Where the line crosses the y axis.
Zero slope The slope of a horizontal line. ex: 0/4
Undefined slope The slope of a vertical line. ex: 8/0
Rate of change Words in a word problem that means slope. Synonym of slope.
Positive slope Slope of a line than INCREASES from left to right.
Negative slope Slope of a line that DECREASES from left to right.
Slope Formula m = rise / run Y2-Y1/X2-X1
Similar Traingles Triangle with the same shape but not the same size. They are proportional.
