| win-win situation | a situation or outcome in which all parties involved benefit or achieve their goals. There is no winner or loser; both sides win, resulting in a mutually beneficial arrangement. |
| zero-sum game | a situation in which what is gained by one person or group is lost by another person or group |
| build rapport | develop an understanding of an ability to communicate with someone |
| probe interests | try to find out the other side's expectations |
| bargaining procedure | start to negotiate the terms of an agreement |
| make a counter-proposal | make a proposal in response to the other side's proposal |
| reach a stalemate | arrive at a situation which no progress can be made |
| work out the details | discuss all the aspects of the deal |
| return to the negotiation table | you re-negotiate an agreement |
| get down to business | to start doing what needs to be done : to start working |
