Name two enzymes that are present in obligate aerobes but lacking in obligate anaerobes. What is the function of each enzyme Obligate anaerobes lack superoxide dismutase, which converts toxic superoxide to a harmless compound, and catalase, which converts toxic peroxide to oxygen
Differential between a microaerophile and an aerotolerant organism Microaerophiles requ low amts of oxygen for metabolism, higher amts are lethal. Aerotolerant org can grow in oxygen but do not use it for metabolism & are indifferent to its presence
Why is resazurin a useful media additive for the study of anaerobes? It is an indicator for the presence of oxygen
Growth only at top of FTM is; obligate aerobe
Growth only at bottom of FTM is; obligate anaerobe
Even growth throughout FTM tube is: aerotolerant
Heavy growth at top, lighter growth at bottom of FTM tube is: facultative anaerobe
Growth only in the middle of the FTM tube is; Microaerophile
