Local Government

Board of Supervisors Legislative body of county government.
Charter Written grant by state legislature to establish a local government.
City Independent local government seat; a large town.
City Council Legislative body of a city government.
Clerk of Circuit Court Constitutional officer who keeps records of legal documents.
Commissioner of Revenue Constitutional officer who assesses property and other local taxes.
Constitutional Officer 5 officers that the state mandates each local government elect.
County Local government seat; division of state government.
Interest Group Association of individuals based on one or more shared concerns.
Lobby To seek to influence lawmakers to vote for or against a bill.
Manager Local executive for a county or city.
Mayor Local executive for a city or town.
Ordinance Law enacted by a local body of government.
Policy making Lawmaking.
School Board A local board responsible for the maintenance and rule-making of schools.
Sheriff Constitutional officer elected to assist the Governor with enforcing state laws
Town Local government seat larger than a village and smaller than a city.
Town Council Legislative body of a town government.
Treasurer Constitutional officer who collects taxes and makes payment.
