Force & Motion

TermDefinition
force Energy that moves an object; a push or pull
friction Force that slows down moving things and produces heat
inertia an object keeps doing what it is doing; stays at rest or stays in motion
mass the amount of matter in an object
1st Law of Motion An object at rest stays at rest unless a force acts upon it and an object in motion stays in motion unless a force changes it
2nd Law of Motion The greater the mass an object has, the more force that is needed to move it, stop it, or change direction
3rd Law of Motion For every force or action there is an equal and opposite reaction
gravity invisible force that pulls things towards the ground
